about

For the fresh listener, the first album of experimental multi-instrumentalist and artist Yoshe Malkus might appear as a strange, but beautiful journey with an otherworldly atmosphere to it. Influenced mostly by the need to express the inner struggle and demons - or even only feelings - of the human mind. Starting off with an intro that immediately reminds one of Neil Young's droning guitar for the soundtrack of 'Dead Man' concluding into a statement which explains the process of the whole being and soul of the work. The young Berlin based musician also had been inspired by writers like H.P. Lovecraft ,writing the song 'Celephaïs' some early morning, realizing the similarities to the Lovecraft story after having finished and deciding then to make it a homage, and William Blake by whom you can find a line in 'Olympus Mons'. As well, you'll find a tribute to the poem 'Voodoo Girl' by Tim Burton. Many of the tracks are self explaining when getting into the experience or rather due to their perfectly set titles like 'Skeleton Silver Teeth (On The Moon)/Sound Of The Dentist' is inspired by dentist's operating tools sounds, 'Sorry' is an apology, 'Seaweed' is written from the point of view of seaweed (at least it seems so at first) and one half of 'Over & Under' feels like one's above the surface of earth and the latter as if one takes a trip in a submarine to the depths of the ocean. Contradictional to the first doomed psychedelic part of the album, the second part is more gentle and calm with even some uplifting positive tunes, 'Happy' or 'I'm A Stone' for example. The official last song could be best described as a 'downer song' but it ends again in a grand finale with a hidden heavy reverb-soaked distorted self destructive feast anouncing the end of this extraordinary unique journey through a different world from what one would call the norm.
